Allow about 3 inches on each side of the window.

The math is pretty simple so here goes.

Don t forget to include curtain tiebacks when finalizing the width of the curtain rod as these may take a few more inches of wall space beyond the curtain pole not necessarily for the tieback but for the actual curtain fabric to hang elegantly.
Then choose a fashion fabric and line with blackout fabric for a professional look.

Mullions are the vertical separations and transoms are the horizontal separations however there are many combinations of curtain walls sometimes a single panel is considered a curtain wall.
For wall mounted rods allow at least one to three inches on each side of the window to accommodate an open curtain or as much as six inches on each side of the frame if.
Use a level to line up the pencil markings so that the rod hangs evenly.
To install the curtain rod measure and mark the bracket locations on the wall.
Use a straightedge to draw a horizontal pencil line at this height.
Draw the line slightly higher if you want your window to appear a little taller than it actually is.
Double check the placement by temporarily hanging the rod on the brackets and checking the rod with a level.
Measure 2 4 inches 5 1 10 2 cm above your window or window molding depending on how high you want to install your curtains.
Instead of brackets use sockets on adjoining walls to hold the rod.
If it s dry crumbly plaster or a cinderblock wall that s preventing you from drilling holes consider hanging your curtain rod from the ceiling instead.
In most spaces a rod with decorative finials hung on the wall outside of the window frame will look best and provide the most coverage.
These will expand inside the dry wall panel to the weight of the rod and curtains and will prevent the screws from pulling out of the wall.
