Cement backerboards include hardiebacker durock fiberboard wonderboard and similar products. If working alone place a couple of screws slightly into the wall roughly 1 8 inch above the shower. Typically i use durock and it performs very well. It is the only way to guarantee the long term integrity of your wall studs behind the shower walls.
