Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware. Remove the screws on the inside retaining plate with a phillips head screwdriver in your free hand. With the plate removed you can now pull the latch mechanism through the side of the door. Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole.

I have taken all visible screws out but still holds. Wrap one hand around both sides of the doorknob. On the thumb turn on the inside handle of the bathroom there should be a tiny allen key grub screw. The handles should now come away from the door.

If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door. Undo the allen key grub screw and take away the thumb turn and spindle. Remove the latch mechanism if you re installing a new handle. Hi undo all the screws that fix the handles to the door.

Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door. Many door knobs have trim plates that cover the screws so removing them can be a bit tricky if you ve never done it before. Your fingers will be on the outside decorative cover and your thumb on the inside retaining plate. Find the screws on the side of the door that secure the latch plate.

Usually at the bottom of the thumb turn. If your knob has a pinhole or small slot opening use a flathead screwdriver to push it inward.
