Attach the jamb with one nail then close the door and check the gap. Shim it and nail it and hang the trim. Use a putty knife or chisel to remove any old caulking or thick layer of paint on the door jamb or siding. Remove the existing door by pulling out the hinge pins and lifting it off of the hinges.

Remove the screws holding the brass strike plate to the door frame as well as any other deadbolt or security lock plates on the frame. Use a flat pry bar to remove the door casing being careful not to damage adjoining surfaces.
