How funny i just happened to stumble on this post not looking for anything like this but i getting ready to spray paint out door hardware with oil rubbed bronze paint ala young house love and was in need of a way to spray the hinges without getting it all over the door and surrounding walls floors etc without removing them.

With our ugly old hardware we had gotten in the habit of hanging clothes hangers off of the knobs to lay out our clothes or remember to bring something with us.
Remove stubborn paint with steel wool and dry it off.
If the hinges of your cabinets are already painted you may want to strip the old paint.
But add in the drying time and it s a full day project.
Soap and water works just fine that s what i use or a liquid cleaner degreaser.
Pull out all the pins and then have someone help you carry the door outside to a pair of sawhorses.

I am thrilled to report that the spray paint jobs on all of the hinges and door knobs has held up great even in high use areas.
So if you re painting a door you can t live without like a bathroom or exterior door start first thing in the morning so it can be back in service by day s end.
With one exception which is entirely our fault.
Leave it for a minute then take it out and wash it off under a stream of water.
Remove your hardware from the piece and clean it with tsp wash or a degreaser.
Remove the door and all of the hardware.
How to paint a door.
You can use synthetic steel wool i always have ssw on hand and use it for so many things to help get any old flaky finish off if you need and smooth everything out then wipe the hardware down with a cleaner.
To do this easily immerse each hinge in paint stripper while wearing rubber gloves.
