I m just concerned i will run into some unforseen issue with the door binding on the hinge side if i move the hinges in consistent with a 1 3 4 when i m using a 1 3 8 door.
How to move door hinges on door frame.
You will need to place a thin piece of similar wood in the side of the door for each unused hinge slot for a good appearance.
Once the wood is the right size glue the inward facing side and then press it into place.
Once the old screw holes are filled you can now remount the hinge.
Place the door across two sawhorses.
Line up the two hinge plates so that the ones on the door match the ones in the jamb.
Take a plain piece of wood the width of your door and cut it down until it fits into the shape left by your former door hinge.
This may include covering over any wood stains left by the hinge.
Hold the hinge up to the jam where it will go back shift it 1 8 of a inch and mark the new hole positions.
The hinges i m using are large enough to move in on the frame hinge side without the barrel hitting any interior casing.
Hold the door in place using blocks under the bottom to support it if necessary.
The cylinder part of the hinge should be facing.
Slide the hinge pins into place and remove the blocks from the door.
Once cured use a chisel to flush the dowel to the door jam.
Likewise you should place wood in the old door frame to fill in the hinge slots.
Hold until the glue starts to dry.
Taper and mark the dowel to minimize chances of splitting the wood.
