Pick and choose from the following steps depending on your desires and skill level.
It s important to secure your roof in place before adding the thatch as it would be difficult and too heavy to lift into place afterward.
Determine how many inches of overhang you d like on the front and back of the bar.
Measure and cut the plywood for the countertops.
I purchased a 20 foot roll of thatch for 100 from a specialty bamboo store that was a 30 minute drive from my house.
Dry fit the countertop through the posts to make sure they fit.
Close up of thatching roof to be added to a tiki bar.
We felt this would comfortably seat 4 bar stools.
The most basic tiki bar for example would just be a bamboo lined bar without a roof or floor.
However thatched palm leaves can be used instead for a more authentic polynesian look.
Attach 1 6 slats to the roof of the tiki bar.
At first we planned to have one pallet on each side to make a u shape but we ended up not doing it that way you ll see below.
Each pallet is 4 ft wide which would make it 8 ft across.
This step can be done at any point in the build however this is when i chose to do it.
Leave no gaps between the slats for a neat result.
Step 17 attach tiki bar thatching roof.
Before attaching countertop to the bar sections measure and cut out the four holes at each corner of countertop to allow for 4x4 posts.
Do not cut corners with the roof as it can make or break the appearance of the bar.
Make sure you use cedar or other weather resistant materials for the project as the tiki bar will be exposed to the elements.
But you could also build a deck a frame to hang things from and the classic thatched roof if desired.
First lift the roof structure into place and secure it on all four corners of the bar.
